The Witch – Advanced Photoshop Tutorial

In this advanced manipulation course, we will create a fantasy scene using stock photos and 3D objects rendered. I used Photoshop CC 2019 but you can do this even in Photoshop CS6 if you are an experienced Photoshop user.

 Final result

This Photoshop tutorial is divided in 5 parts that cover the most important steps when creating any manipulation.

1. Creating the scene
   Here we will make the background where the witch will stand. This process is very straight forward...using a few stock images, which we will blend using layer masks and the brush tool and/or the Gradient Tool. On this first part, we will place all the elements that compose our scene, including the model and the props.

2. Shading
   This part is all about creating the shadows of all the elements on our scene. Here, you can learn more techniques about how to create shadows in Photoshop.

3. Blending the scene
   On this part I will start darkening the background using brushing and some adjustment layers and layer styles so that everything blends seamlessly into one uniform scene.

4. Lighting the scene
   This is the key part of this manipulation. I will show you the technique I use when creating realistic lighting effects using only the brush tool and blend modes.

5. Final adjustments
   After everything is created, I always like to use adjustment layers and glows of light. I think this always can enhance any fantasy manipulation artwork. Also, I will use Camera RAW to create the final touch ups.
